Today, Ruby had a rest day and Holly had an Arts and Crafts day and made her a new sign to go in her room:

And of course, Ruby does rock:
She's not actually listening to music. These are her daddy's Bose noise-canceling headphones, which we put on her to see if it'd help keep her more calm and rested. She was getting agitated from the usual NICU sounds -- monitors beeping, babies crying, nurses talking, orderlies pushing carts -- so we thought it wouldn't hurt to give them a try. I just turned on the noise-canceling function without them plugged into any music source. The doctors and nurses all thought it was a great idea and it seemed to work. This is Ruby all tucked in and snuggled up before we turned out the lights:
Ruby is 3rd on the list for surgery tomorrow, so she should start between 10am and 11am tomorrow. It'll probably be at least 2 hours before we can go back again to see her, but her surgeon should let us know how it went as soon as her part is over. Even after the surgeon is done, the cleanup can take 45 minutes or more. So we'll probably be able to update the blog mid to late afternoon. The surgery will happen in her own room, on her current bed. This is because moving a CDH baby can be a very iffy proposition. Why risk it when you can turn their current bedroom into an operating room?

Of course Ruby rocks, she's a KMNR baby. :) I love the headphones. Hey, if it can work for high powered business men on an airplane, where there is beeping, flight attendants pushing carts and babies crying 5 rows back, makes sense it would work for the NICU. That's awesome that she would tolerate having them on her and even slept with them. Best of luck today sweet Ruby. 3rd at bat isn't a bad place to be at all! :)

Be honest, isn't it tempting to give her some nice mellow Tangerine Dream or one of those Hearts of Space CD's? Tell her if she's real good you'll get out the Texas Music for your little Texan.
