Good, Quiet Day

Ruby had a good day today.  Holly got to hold her again for about two hours, and Ruby did very well all day long.  We took lots of little baby steps today.  We weaned down on some of her ventilator settings so she has to work more on her own to breathe.  And now she's back to breathing air that's 23% oxygen again -- nearly room air.  We also began weaning her off of her sedation.  Her morphine went down from 300mcg/kg/hour to 250, and her Versed was weaned yesterday from 240mcg/kh/hr to 220.  We also increased her feeding from 5ml to 10ml of formula every 3 hours.  She seemed to handle all these changes very well and it was a quiet, uneventful day.  Just like we like it!

That is nothing short of

That is nothing short of amazing! This is just the first of many snoozes in mom and dad's arms. Many prayers answered, many more still going up! The Ayers family.

By the way - Lillie wants a playdate when Ruby comes to visit Tyler to see her grandparents! She has a lot of tricks to show her. She also has a few "NICU Approved" outfits if you need them.

As I sit here and read this

As I sit here and read this I have tears for your joy! My son Jackson (who is going to be 2 on June 13) was born at 33 weeks and weighed 3lbs 7oz. He didn't have any of the major things that you are dealing with, but just like your Ruby, he is a fighter! I laughed out loud when I was reading about the 5cc to 10cc of formula! We always made changes in 1cc because Jackson had trouble digesting food and remember those milestones so well. And then when he came home, he went from 2 ounces up to 6 and the 8 in no time!
Hang in there. I am celebrating with you at the joy of beautiful Ruby. From a Mom who has been there, in a hospital, thousands of miles from home and family it is tough. It is okay to let the nurses and doctors become your family. We still talk to one of Jackson's nurses on a regular basis. We are actually going on vacation to see her!
Don't be afraid of the setbacks. That is what makes her strong. I read your whole blog yesterday and today. My son Jackson would look at Ruby as say "Oh, pretty baby!" Even though he doesn't remember being in the NICU with the tubes, he looks at a baby and he doesn't see that! You are raising a child that doesn't see the differences. Be proud of that!
If there is anything I can do besides pray, please let me know.

Pretty much every day, first

Pretty much every day, first thing in the morning and last thing at night, I click on the blog to see what is going on, hoping there will be good news.

It was sooooooo wonderful to see the relaxed smiles on your faces as you are holding Ruby in this most recent post! That says so much. I'm so glad she's that close to breathing room air, and that the other indicators are going well. What a great day!

I can't believe what a phenomenal job you are doing keeping us all updated on such a regular basis, and I can only hope that in some way reading our comments back is giving you some comfort, as you realize how many people are "standing with you," even if it's from a long, long way a way.

Love to you all,

Tara
