Ruby gets another break from the sedation weaning today. She had a much better day yesterday than Tuesday, but she still had some withdrawal symptoms. The craziest one was projectile vomiting. I was sitting the chair next to her crib and all I saw was a fountain of milk. It could not have been a pleasant experience for her. Her feed volume was raised 70 ml on Tuesday. So, today they are going back down 65ml and uping the calories to see if that helps with the vomiting. She also lost 25 grams yesterday. We're not concerned just yet because she hasn't been sleeping well, vomiting, and having really big watery stools. Diaper changes have been fun lately. She was one stinky baby yesterday.
Grandma bought her a pretty pink bath tub and last night we put it to good use. We still can't submerse her in water due to the steristrips on her broviac central line dressing. While I can't wait to give her a good soaking, we don't need an infection. It's healing and hopefuly the steristrips will fall of soon. Ruby hates the water part of her bath, but loves the lotion part at the end. Her OT has taught us some baby massage and Ruby really responds to it. After bath we wrap her up in a fuzzy towel and give her a massage. Last night she even tolerated a back rub with some very important tummy time.
Notice that her repair is visible in this picture. She has stitch working it's way out on one end, it's nothing to worry about.

While it seems as though we aren't making much progress we really are. Everday her lungs are growing and getting better. Thats what's important.

Your baby is beautiful1 I'm
Your baby is beautiful1 I'm so glad she is doing so much better even while she faces new challenges.
All the best,

She looks great! She's
She looks great! She's getting so big! I can't tell if she's home yet, or is she's still in the hospital, but she'll be home in no time! You are doing a great job with her.
Beauty in yellow... Ruby
Beauty in yellow...
Ruby looks so cute against the yellow in the bottom picture. She is such a beauty.
I'm sure the projectile vomiting and poops were no fun for any of you (especially Ruby). Hang in there and we'll be hoping for her to have an easier day today and tomorrow.
Hmmm... that lil peachy head
Hmmm... that lil peachy head looks suspiciously like your hair, Holly...Is it so? I know Chris's Brown is alleged to be dominant, but my ginger haired little Ruthie is proof that there's some genes out in the family tree that we see a little less of. (Do not tell Ruth she has pretty red hair..."It's Orange" she will say, every time. Correcting people like that makes her Mad!)
I'm sorry the weaning isn't going just perfect, and especially sorry about the gastranomical issues. I'm sure everything is rough for her right now. I can't imagine trying to bathe anyone going through withdrawl. I am confidant that the fuzzy towel & on make it worth while for her though.
Keep being strong! She is a precious gift from God and you and your stength are a gift to her as well!
*so, not of. I started to

I started to read that and it was a "doh" moment. that's what i get for typing first thing in the morning.
Finally, I get a chance to
Finally, I get a chance to catch up on Miss Ruby! (internet down for 4 days) I love the look she is giving you in that picture of tummy time. It's very, "That's right. You better rub my back. You made me scream and cry and now you will give me a nice little massage." :) Oh, and look, she has hair!! I miss you guys, and I am still sewing away on burp cloths, they will come eventually. Love and hugs from IA.
She is just too precious for
She is just too precious for words. I'm sorry she is having issues with the weaning; i am sure it is not fun for parents, grandparents or ruby, herself. You can do it, Ruby! Come home soon!
love, Kate
Her little fuzzy head is so
Her little fuzzy head is so pretty! I'm sorry about the vomitting and all of her uncomfortableness. That cannot be fun. I love how content she looks during her massage.
We've been following your
We've been following your blog since the delivery and are so, so happy to see Ruby's progress! You have a beautiful little girl on your hands, and it gives me the goosebumps just thinking how much you three have been through and how far she's come. It's been amazing to watch her progress from here, and we're amazed by your strength through this whole thing. Ruby is very lucky to have you two as her parents. I just want to remind you, if you need any help with supply, I am more than happy to give you as much breastmilk as you'd like. I donate to the milk bank in Austin every week, as Opal refuses to drink nearly all of what a pump at work (what a stinker!) I know you are still operating on a day-to-day basis, but I just wanted to put a bug in your ear again. Shoot me an email at any time and I'll hang on to as much as you need. Wishing you all the best,
Lindsay
The projectile vomiting is
The projectile vomiting is always scary looking - so sorry it happened to her and you guys!
Every day she takes steps forward, no matter how small they may seem to others, is progress.
She's more and more beautiful everyday. :)
