mid-week Ruby

Chris pointed out I didn't really update on her appointments last week.  With the blood and everything I kinda forgot.  Basically she sounds good.  The pulmanologist doesn't want to see her until the spring or if she has any problems!  He said  she sounds great, for her.  I love that little caveat they put at the end of that statement.

Ruby has pretty much refused the bottle after the weekend.  As soon as we put the tube in she stopped taking the bottle.  She is however still eating the solids.  infact she's decided that she wants to feed her self.  Rather fight her we just let her make an even bigger mess.  At her next appointment I'm going to ask if we can start finger foods.  Maybe just soft ones that she gum.  I know 9-10 months is usually the time for that.  She just really wants to feed herself.

Here are a couple pictures from our day today.  I did give RUby some tylenol.  She seems to be teething and very cranky about.

Hi Holly, We have

Hi Holly,
We have experienced the same thing with Jaime...he eats crummy when the NG is in, but great when it's out. His speech therapist told me that it's because the tube irritates their throat and makes swallowing even harder, especially if they have swallow issues to begin with. His bottle intake sky rocketed when I accidentally pulled his NG out yesterday (it really was an accident, too).
So happy Ruby is eating well! I've been meaning to ask you, how do you make your avocados? Do you just mash them up? Anything special go into them? I was told that I have to start Jaime on "green" stuff...we LOVE avocados and hope he does, too. I'm not a big "pea" fan, so I don't think I'll try those, maybe green beans? What else has Ruby tried?
Love the pics as usual!
:-)

Love the mess! She looks

Love the mess! She looks like she's having a great time! It's interesting that you say that about the tube... I was just wondering the same thing. Wyatt threw up his tube yesterday so we left it out until bedtime. He did really well with his bottles all day. I was thinking about doing an experiment of my own to see how he would do without it for a day. I'll let you know how we make out.

Ruby is about the age my son

Ruby is about the age my son was when he stepped up his oral intake and got to stop using his g-tube for feedings; it's almost like they have to hit the point where they're developmentally able to connect hunger with food and eating with feeling satisfied. My son's PTs and OTs all said that the NG-tube can make drinking liquids feel kind of gross (I've never had one myself but have spoken to an adult who has needed them on several occasions, and he confirmed that yes, it's true). So maybe that's what's up with her not wanting to take the bottle. Still, she's making great strides--GO RUBY GO!!!

She's letting all that

She's letting all that perfectly good avocado go to waste!! What's wrong with her?! :) She's such a cute little stinker, isn't she? Hugs and love from IA.
