Ruby's having another good, stable day. She's nearly weened off her dopamine, and they're cutting her cortisone in half today. The big news is that they're starting her on Lasix (furosemide) today. It is a diuretic that will help her pee off the excess fluid that built up in response to her body being invaded by the ECMO monster. Once that's gone, she'll be less puffy and swollen, and could be eligible for her repair surgery. Still no official word as to whether she'll be taken off ECMO first, but I know that's the first choice since doing surgery while on ECMO comes with its own additional set of risks. We're expecting them to give her at least 3-5 more days of rest before they try anything major like surgery or going off ECMO. But in the mean time, it's all about urine production! We get really excited about pee these days. The nurses were making fun of me because I keep checking the collection container that her catheter drains into, to see if she's made any more.
