Well...
The roller coaster continues. Just when we think we've caught a brake. Ruby's platelet count was better this morning but not good. She was also not responding to the increase in her sedation medications. Not exactly what we wanted to hear when we walked in this morning. They are no longer considering putting the tube to drain the fluid off her lung. That appears to be the least of our worries this morning.
They have started her on Isoflourine which is a general anestetic and used during surgeries. It was a last resort, and the long term effects on a neonates brain developement is unknown. Her Dr. waited as long as she could before agreeing to putting her on it. Also due to her platelet counts there is huge concern of infection again. They have restarted antibiotics. They will most likely change out her circuit again today. The ECMO circuit change will help them determine if the increased need for blood products is due to the circuit or to an infection or something else in Ruby.
Chris and I will be staying this hospital tonight.

Ok....three steps forward,
Ok....three steps forward, two steps back.
Hope you got better news today that the circuit is the cause for increased blood products. I know this will restart the inflammatory response but hopefully it will be a short lived one with her continuing to get rid of the extra fluid.
Hopefully the need for the Isoflourine is very short lived.
Hope you are able to get some sleep tonight...hugs and love from St. Louis-
Tami, Chuck, and Aisling

Praying for you all and
Praying for you all and Ruby. Maybe we should tell your fighter to enjoy the meds, not laugh in their face. We hope and pray that the circuit change will be what Ruby needs to get things back on track. Praying for Ruby to stay sedated, lung function, and pee.
I'm sorry, Chris and Holly.
